Town of High River Bylaw 4247 – 2009 Consolidated Animal Control Bylaw sets out the regulations for animal control and licensing within Town boundaries. An amending bylaw was passed in 2016 to allow residents to keep chickens and bees on their property – Bylaw 4483 – 2016.

Dog Licensing

Residents are required to license all dogs three months of age and older. New licenses must be purchased at Town Hall
(309B Macleod Trail S.W.). Renewals can be done online or at Town Hall.

Dog License Fees

Spayed or Neutered dogs: $30.00/year
Un-altered dogs: $60.00/year

Deadline to renew dog licenses is Jan. 31 of the current year.

Penalties

Unlicensed dog – fine up to $250

Dog not wearing its license tag – fine up to $75

Allowing a dog to run off leash – fine up to $100

Failing to pick up after your dog – fine up to $500

The Bishop Off-leash Dog Park is located east of 5 Street S.E. behind the Canadian Tire/Mark’s Work Warehouse shopping centre.
