Creativity in High River – Rooted in People

High River’s Bustling Art Scene

  • Art and Soul Studio Gallery – Featuring a collective of individual artists who work together to provide the public a place to see original artwork. One also gets to meet the artists directly and see what they are passionate about.
  • Banksy Art Project – A group of young High River Artists looks to kick off their art project of beautifying the downtown thanks to the Community Vitality Fund. Featuring work from local artists in the style of the infamous Banksy, this art installation will be mostly outdoors along High River’s Happy Trails and Downtown.
  • Doug Mitchell Art and Custom Framing Gallery – A gallery featuring the original photography, custom framing and woodwork of Doug Mitchell. Fine art landscapes, wildlife, wedding and family portraiture, etc. as well as full custom framing services for all your framing needs.
  • Foothills Folk Club – The Foothills Folk Club was started in 2011 by a group of individuals who wanted to bring additional enthusiasm to the already bustling arts and culture scene in High River. Their volunteer-run organization is dedicated to hosting diverse, authentic, live concerts in the foothills region.
  • High River Art Society – Promotes and supports art in the Highwood area. The group meets monthly, organizes shows and presentations, and offers the fellowship of artists and art minded people. Everyone is welcome to join.
  • High River Gift of Music – Discover the rich world of live classical music as renowned local, national, and international pianists, chamber ensembles, vocalists, and choirs perform in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Concerts are presented in the acoustically superb High River United Church with its beautiful concert grand piano and intimate ambiance.
  • High River Library – Along with loaning a variety of materials, the library puts on many different special events and programs throughout the year.
  • Pike Studios – Featuring Artists: Bob & Connie Pike, the Pikes’ gallery and studio is quite the place to visit and anyone is sure to walk out knowing much more about working with clay or metal and the creative process in general. Bob and Connie will show you around their studios and explain how basic materials can be transformed into a work of art or a utilitarian piece of pottery to use in your home.
  • The Venue The High River Performing Arts Foundation is a grassroots, non-profit organization whose mission is to provide a collaborative performing arts venue in downtown High River.  Our primary goals are to pool the resources of the existing organizations and talented members of the community, to be a place for local talent to enhance their skills and develop their craft through collaboration and performance, and to attract talent to High River and provide accessible entertainment and inspiration.  We are building The Venue, a 12000 square foot collaborative performing and creative arts space, to make all of this possible.
  • Wales Movie Theatre – The Wales Theatre has seen it all, from the primitive ‘storeroom theatres’ and early films, silent movies, talkies and technicolor, and cinemascope to wide screens. Today, the Wales Theatre features one of the last free-standing balconies in Canada and has been completely renovated and accented with all modern amenities. The theatre has also been home to Foothills Films for the past seven years, where select films from the Toronto International Film Circuit are shown on the last Thursday of every month from September to April (excluding December).
  • Windmill Theatre Players – Windmill Theatre Players are an amateur group that produces two major productions yearly including Children’s theatre, one-act plays and more.
