High River AB – High River Town Council is providing residents with an opportunity to comment on updates to the Town’s Animal Bylaw at a Public Hearing scheduled for Monday, January 27 at 3 pm. In 2019 an extensive review of the bylaw was held that included community engagement to solicit ideas from residents. Town staff have also reviewed the bylaws of neighbouring communities.

 The proposed changes include:

  • Updated definitions and terms used in the bylaw
  • Amalgamating the Bee Bylaw and Urban Chicken Bylaw into the new Animal Bylaw
  • An increase of penalties and fees

Residents are invited to attend the regular Council meeting to share any comments before Council. Anyone who cannot attend is welcome to provide written comments in advance to the Town’s Legislative Services department. These must be type-written and can be emailed to legislativeservices@highriver.ca, mailed to Town Hall, or dropped off at Town Hall Reception.

The proposed updates to the Animal Bylaw and related Council meeting minutes and agendas are found on the Town’s website. Visit highriver.ca/council-meetings and scroll to the January 13 Council meeting minutes (Item 10.1) and the January 27 meeting agenda (Item 5.1). Any questions may also be directed to the Town’s Legislative Services department. Email legislativeservices@highriver.ca, or call 403-652-2110.
