Town of High River Passes Fire Protection Bylaw

December 28, 2020

HIGH RIVER, AB – As a result of the meeting on December 14, 2020, Council has passed the new Fire Protection Bylaw 4583-2020. This Bylaw states that the sale and discharge of consumer fireworks within the boundaries of the Town of High River is prohibited. With many accidental fires and injuries reported as a result of fireworks each year, this Bylaw serves as an effort to maintain public safety. Consumer fireworks cannot safely be set off in residential spaces and pose risk of injury as well as liability concern for those discharging the fireworks.

Display fireworks, which are fireworks that are purchased and discharged by licensed and insured individuals are permitted within the Town. This includes firework displays such as Canada Day. The licensed individuals have received proper training and hold significant liability insurance, reducing risk to the community. These events will be required to obtain a permit 14 days prior to the event.
