- Construction begins: Mid-August 2017 (Phase one)
- Completed by: Early-December 2017 (Phase one)
- Construction begins: Mid-May 2018 (Phase two)
- Completed by: July 2018
As part of required infrastructure upgrades the Lineham Canal Bridge will be replaced this fall. Sections of Centre Street will also be upgraded and the alignment of the road in this area improved.
- Phase one (2017) – Installation of new bridge and improved Centre Street alignment.
- Phase two (2018) – Removal of old bridge and landscaping work.
The Lineham Canal bridge replacement is necessary as it has reached the end of its useful lifecycle.
Work will begin on August 14 with construction of phase one substantially completed by early December, weather permitting. The contract was awarded through a public tender to Volker Stevin.
The majority of construction will take place on the west side of Centre Street to limit impacts on traffic as much as possible. The existing road north of the bridge and bridge itself will remain in place until the new sections are open to traffic.
Due to the volume of construction activity happening in this area, Centre Street will be reduced to 30 kilometres per hour from the Centre Street Bridge north to High Country Drive N.W. There will also be minor disruptions to traffic throughout construction and flag staff will be used as required. Drivers and pedestrians are asked to obey construction signage and watch for heavy equipment and trucks working in the area.
All work is being done within provincial and federal environmental guidelines and will be monitored throughout construction.

Flood mitigation enhancements
This area of town currently has natural flood mitigation protection to the river flows experienced during the 2013 flood. The Town is taking this opportunity to enhance the level of protection provided to the 2013 flood level plus one additional vertical metre of freeboard protection. This will be done by raising a section of Centre Street and tying into existing flood mitigation infrastructure in the area.
The Lineham bridge project is funded by two grants for a total of $4 Million (Approx $3.5M construction and remaining $0.5M Engineering, Fortis and misc).
