The Town of High River is committed to providing current information about upcoming major construction projects that may affect residents.

The following projects are expected to take place in the spring, summer and fall of 2020. More details such as start dates, locations, detours will be added as information becomes available.

5th Street SE Partial Lane Closure Begins August 10 – Utility Line Replacement

5th Street SE Partial Lane Closure Begins August 10 – Utility Line Replacement  The northbound lane on 5th Street SE will be partially closed from August 10th to 15th and August 17th to 21st at various locations as crews work to replace the adjacent power line. SW Dike & 12th Ave: Latest Updates

  • SW Dike and 12th Avenue SW Full Closure Reminder  There will be a full closure of 12th Avenue SW from Baker Creek to the west side of 1st Street SW starting Monday, July 20 for work related to the SW Dike and reconstruction of 12th Avenue SW. Detour signage will be in place for motorists and pedestrians throughout the SW neighbourhoods. Please obey all construction signs and be aware of heavy equipment in the area. An alternate route at the north end of the Baker Creek Estates will provide access in and out for residents of that complex. This will be an extended closure to allow crews to replace underground utilities and resurface this section of 12th Avenue SW. Construction of the SW Dike and upgrades to 12th Avenue SW are expected to be completed in the Fall of 2020.

Centre Street: Latest Updates:

  • Centre Street Utilities Relocation Project Update – Work on the Centre Street Utilities Relocation Project will move northward starting the week of July 13.Crews will be working within the former CP lands, south of 7th Avenue SE and adjacent to 609 Centre Street, for approximately a week. Customers of businesses located in 701 Centre Street may park in unoccupied areas within the former CP lands during this time…

High Country Drive: Latest Updates

  • Centre Street to High Country Drive Re-opens July 29   The Town would like to thank residents for their patience during the Centre Street NW closure. Drivers have had to detour to 5th Street SE for the past eight days while contractors worked on the Centre Street crossing to Eagleview.

4th Avenue SE deep utility replacement between 3rd and 5th Street SE: Project Approved July 13

  • 4th Avenue SE – Underground Utilities Replacement At the July 13 meeting, Council approved the awarding of a contract for replacement of underground utilities on 4th Avenue SE to Shawne Excavating and Trucking. The work is part of the annual Street Replacement Program to repair and upgrade aging infrastructure including deep utilities, roads, and sidewalk and will begin in late July or early August.

Other Projects

  • Centre Street Bridge: The Town is planning on the refurbishment (painting or galvanizing) or complete replacement of the bridge rails. Also, other bridge repairs will also be undertaken as part of this project. The Town plans on completing this project in 2020. Procurement of engineering services is underway.
  • Eagleview Bank Protection: The last riverbank armoring project is the Eagleview Bank Protection. The purpose of this project is to protect the Eagleview development against erosion from the Highwood River. It is proposed that rip rap (i.e. large rock) be placed back from the river and buried within the former CP lands. Procurement of engineering services is underway. The Town plans on completing this project in 2020.
  • Paving of lane between 3rd and 4th Avenue (Macleod to 1st Street SW): Now that utility work has been completed the Town will be paving the above lane. Procurement of engineering services is underway. The Town plans on completing this project in 2020.
  • 2020 Miscellaneous Pedestrian Improvements: The Town will be continuing its annual pedestrian improvement project in 2020. In recent years the project has focused on sidewalks. This year, paved pathways are the primary focus. This work will be at various locations throughout the Town.
