Until the end of June, the Farmer’s Market, Yard and Garage Sales and Food Trucks in the community are all cancelled due to continued COVID-19 concerns. No business licenses will be issued for food trucks until further notice. These restrictions will be reviewed at the end of the current operational period on June 30.
It is important to continue following provincial guidelines for social distancing and gatherings. Driveway, garage or in-home sales create unsafe environments that encourage groups of people who touch items on display. Residents are encouraged to hold online sales with curbside pick up to prevent the spread of the virus.
The High River Farmer’s Market supports the decision by Council to postpone opening. Many vendors are already moving to a virtual marketplace. Farmers market vendors across the Province have been exploring creative ways to sell and distribute produce. The community is asked to support these vendors by finding ways to buy fresh produce, local meat products, honey, baked goods and more.
2020 will also be a year we explore new ways to celebrate Canada Day! Activities in George Lane Park and fireworks at Emerson Lake have been cancelled due to the pandemic. Festivals and large gatherings hold the potential to be high risk for spread. Mayor Craig Snodgrass says the fireworks will be stored in anticipation of a big celebration when the COVID-19 health emergency is over in Canada.
