2025 Snow & Ice Control – Keeping High River Safe This Winter
HIGH RIVER – Winter is coming, and the Town’s Public Works team is prepared to keep roads, sidewalks, and pathways safe throughout the season. Here’s what you need to know:
Snow Clearing Priority Routes & Downtown:
Major roads, emergency routes, school bus routes, busy intersections, and hills are cleared first. Secondary routes, including school zones and town facilities, are cleared next, with residential streets cleared as needed once priority areas are complete. Downtown streets, sidewalks, and parking areas receive extra attention, with crews starting early when snowfall requires it.
Resident Responsibilities:
Residents and businesses can help keep winter safer by clearing sidewalks and walkways. As per the Good Neighbour Bylaw, residents must shovel within 24 hours of snowfall. Parking off the street helps snow-clearing crews, and keeping snow on your property prevents hazards. Checking on neighbours who may need assistance and using extra caution when driving or walking near icy areas also helps everyone stay safe.
Snow Angels Program:
For those who need assistance with snow removal or who want to volunteer to help neighbours, the Snow Angels Program is available from October 15 to April 30. Residents can contact the FCSS Resource Centre at 403-652-8620 or fcss@highriver.ca to request a Snow Angel or to pick up a sign for their yard. Volunteers can also look for Snow Angel signs in their neighbourhood and lend a hand to clear nearby sidewalks and driveways. Anyone can be a Snow Angel; individuals, families, and community groups are all welcome to participate.
Together, we can keep High River safe and accessible all winter long. By following these guidelines and supporting our snow-clearing efforts, every resident contributes to a safer, more navigable community. Learn more at: highriver.ca/snow-and-ice-control.
