2026 Flood Gate Testing & Emergency Preparedness Events

(HIGH RIVER, AB) – The Town of High River is committed to keeping our community safe and prepared. Residents are encouraged to mark their calendars for upcoming flood gate testing and the annual Fire Hall Open House. Take steps to stay informed, protected, and ready for any emergency.
Flood Gate Testing | Sunday, May 3, 2026 | 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
High River's Centre Street flood gate plays a critical role in protecting the community during flood events. To ensure it remains fully operational, Town crews will conduct annual testing on Sunday, May 3, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Temporary Road Closures During Testing:
- Centre Street Bridge (including pedestrian sidewalk)
- Intersection of Centre Street & Macleod Trail (barricades in place)
- Centre Street at High Country Drive (barricades in place)
What You Need to Know:
- Plan alternate routes during testing.
- Crews will test the gate’s manual operation and complete scheduled maintenance.
- Residents are welcome to observe. Protective Services staff will be on-site to answer questions.
- Please respect all barriers to ensure the safety of workers and the public.

Fire Hall Open House – Saturday, May 9, 2026:
Join the High River Fire and Protective Services team for our annual Fire Hall Open House, a key event for Emergency Preparedness Week!
- Date: Saturday, May 9, 2026
- Time: 10 am - 2 pm
- Location: High River Fire Hall (1010 5 Street SE)
Event Highlights:
- Meet emergency responders and ask any questions
- Learn about 72-hour emergency kits and wildfire safety
- Visit displays from emergency response partners
- Prize draws, free food and drinks!
Parking: The Fire Hall parking lot will be closed to ensure emergency access. Street parking is available, including accessible stalls on the north side of the building. Additional parking is available at Sheppard Family Park.
