Natural Change to Highwood River Channels
HIGH RIVER – The Highwood River has naturally changed course in some areas around town. Sections of previously active channels may now be dry, while new channels may contain unfamiliar conditions and hazards such as large trees, debris, and other obstructions present both above and below the water surface.
Rivers naturally change their path over time. While this change will not impact the Town's flood protection and mitigation measures, it will affect recreational river users.
The Town advises recreational users to check current conditions, exercise caution on and around the water, and use the river at their own risk.
It is natural and healthy for rivers to change course in this way. The Town will continue to monitor the river and will provide updates should any significant changes occur.
