School and Playground Zone Safety Reminder
Town of High River Peace Officers are reminding all motorists that school and playground zones in our community are 30 km/h, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
As the new school year begins, drivers are reminded to use extra care in school and playground zones. With students walking, biking, and being dropped off, it’s essential for all motorists to slow down, stay alert, and follow posted speed limits.
Peace Officers will be conducting patrols throughout September and into the school year to ensure compliance. Failure to obey speed limits or traffic laws may result in fines and demerit points.
Motorists are also reminded to:
- Always yield to pedestrians in crosswalks,
- Obey distracted driving laws,
- Allow extra travel time during school start and end times,
- Watch for signage, crossing guards, and increased foot traffic.
The safety of our children and families depends on all of us. Slow down. Stay Alert. Keep High River safe, and remember, drive like your teachers are watching!
