With days getting shorter and winter weather rapidly approaching, here are some seasonal tips to make the transition into the cooler season easy and effective.
Home Safety
- Test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors monthly. Replace batteries as needed.
- Install smoke alarms in every bedroom and on every level of your home.
RV Parking
- RV parking restrictions are in effect from October 30, 2024, to April 1, 2025.
- RVs cannot be parked within the frontage of your property during this period.
Recycling Tips and Hours
- Recycle grass, leaves, branches, twigs, and pumpkins at the Town of High River Recycling Centre.
- The Recycling Centre returns to winter hours on October 31, 2024. Winter hours are 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Sunday (closed on statutory holidays)
Elm Pruning
- Pruning Elm trees is allowed and encouraged from October 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025. Proper pruning helps maintain a healthy Elm population.
- Qualified professionals are available for assistance. Learn more on the Trees & Natural Spaces section of the website.
Shrubs and Bushes
- Trim bushes on your property that encroach on sidewalks, pathways, or roadways.
- Keeping bushes trimmed allows for safer shoveling of sidewalks during winter.
- Bush and tree trimmings including leaves, branches and twigs can be recycled at the High River Recycling Centre.
Weeds
- It's thistle season! Thistles are noxious weeds that spread quickly.
- To manage thistles, keep soil covered with healthy plants and avoid disturbing the ground.
