Suspicious Paving Activity Awareness
HIGH RIVER - The Town is reminding residents to use caution when approached by unsolicited paving contractors. Service Alberta’s Consumer Investigations Unit has received reports of fraudulent paving companies operating across Alberta, particularly in small towns and rural communities.
Some common warning signs may include:
- Door-to-door offers with “today only” pricing.
- Claims of leftover material from another job.
- Requests for large upfront cash payments.
- Lack of written quotes, contracts, or receipts.
- Unmarked vehicles or inconsistent business information.
Residents are encouraged to research companies, request written estimates, and keep copies of all paperwork before agreeing to any work.
If you notice suspicious paving activity or believe you may have encountered a scam, report it to paver.scam@gov.ab.ca or by calling 1-877-427-4088.
If there is an immediate threat or intimidation involved, contact local police first.
Staying informed and reporting suspicious activity can help protect our community.
