(HIGH RIVER, AB): The new outdoor rink will officially open on Saturday, December 13, giving residents a perfect holiday-season spot to skate.

Located at the historic Town Farm site at 820 Highwood Trail SW, the new rink offers a modern, upgraded space for skaters of all ages and skill levels. Its multi-purpose design means it won’t sit idle in warmer months. During those months, the space will transition for ball hockey, basketball and other activities.

The Town will maintain the ice surface over the coming months, meaning the rink may temporarily close from time to time for crews to complete maintenance work. Signs will be placed in the area during such closures.

When temperatures fluctuate sharplywhich is common in our province, the ice can go through a freeze/thaw cycle. This can create a wet layer on top or make the surface uneven. Avoiding the rink when the ice is wet helps keep it strong and reduces the amount of maintenance needed throughout the season.

Since the rink is open to the elements, snow can accumulate on the ice and will need to be cleared. Bring shovels, especially after a snowfall, to help keep the surface smooth and ready for skating and other activities.

Together, we can keep the ice in great condition all season long!
