High Country Drive NW Corridor Study
High Country Drive is a key east-west corridor serving the northwest quadrant of High River. In response to concerns raised by residents, Council has initiated a study to better understand community ideas and opportunities for High Country Drive for people who drive, walk, bike and roll. The High Country Drive study area extends from Longview Trail NW to Centre Street N/Highway 2A. The Town is currently in the first of two planned stages of engagement.
This project is focused on all modes of transportation, including driving, walking, biking and rolling.

Developing Options and Final Recommendations
Many considerations need to be accounted for when developing the design options and finalizing recommendations for a corridor study. Community feedback, in addition to Town policies and plans, cost, best practices, and technical requirements, will be used by the Town to inform the options and evaluation.
Town policies and plans that will inform the designs include:
- Goal 4: High River is a vibrant, interdependent community accessible to all ages and abilities for sharing social and cultural connections
- Policy 4.2.4. Ensure the Town’s municipal facilities are built based on a universal design to enable access and use to all residents.
- Goal 8: High River's existing infrastructure use is optimized to its full extent.
- Policy 8.1.3. Strategically invest in supporting the established community’s growth, specifically by improving public spaces, such as open spaces, parks, bike racks, sidewalks, pathways extensions, and playgrounds.
- Section 5.8: Active Transportation Plan – The Town is committed to making it safer, easier, and more enjoyable to walk, bicycle, and use other forms of active transportation in High River.
- Section 4.3.1. People First (page 52): In order for active forms of transportation to become more attractive and competitive, transportation choices need to be designed through a “people first” lens.
- Section 4.3.2 Connections (page 60): Establishing a complete, connected, and convenient network of walking and bicycling facilities is a fundamental part of making active transportation a convenient and attractive travel option in High River.
- Section 4.3.3 Culture (page 66): Building a culture for active transportation through education and awareness is important to encourage people to use active transportation in High River
