Town Protective Services Team Monitoring Weekend Storm Closely

HIGH RIVER - The Town of High River Protective Services team is actively monitoring a weather system forecasted to bring significant rainfall to Southern Alberta from Friday, June 20, to Sunday, June 22. Current forecasts suggest rainfall amounts between 100 to 150 mm are possible.

The Town is closely monitoring this weather system and any potential impacts it may bring. Currently, the Highwood River below the Little Bow Canal is flowing at below-average levels, with a low water advisory in effect. Additionally, the snowpack on Mount Odlum has completely melted, reducing the likelihood of increased runoff contributing to river levels.

While we recognize that water-related weather events can raise concerns. The Town is well-prepared and continues to work closely with provincial agencies to monitor developments and ensure readiness should conditions change.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed by following the Town's social media channels or visiting highriver.ca/news for timely updates.

As a precaution, residents may wish to take the following proactive steps:

  • Ensure gutters and downspouts are clear of debris and directed away from building foundations.
  • Monitor and prepare any low-lying areas of your property for potential pooling of water.

We thank residents for their attention and cooperation as we continue to prioritize public safety and preparedness.
