2025 Municipal Election - Candidate Information
The information on this page is for Candidates to prepare for running in the 2025 Municipal Election, it is not legal advice and the Town cannot be held liable. Candidates should review the Local Authorities Election Act for specific direction.
Candidate Information
The nomination period is now open! Candidates must file their nomination papers by noon on Monday, September 22, 2025. Prospective candidates must schedule a time with the Town's Returning Officer to submit the following:
- Notice of Intent (Required before accepting contributions or incurring expenses): Recent legislative changes now require candidates to file a notice of intent with the location of their campaign records and details of their financial institution(s) for their campaign. Important: Submitting a Notice of Intent does not mean candidates have to declare whether they are running for Mayor or Council. This information will be made public once candidates officially file their Nomination Papers.

- Campaign Disclosure Statement and Financial Statement - Recent legislative changes now require all candidates to file a campaign disclosure statement in accordance with Section 147.4 of the Local Authorities Election Act, on or before September 30 of a year in which an election is to be held, for contributions received between January 1 and July 31 of that year. Candidates must also file a disclosure statement by March 1 of each year for contributions received in the previous year. Failure to do so could result in a $500 fine. It is the candidate’s responsibility to file the appropriate forms as indicated in the Local Authorities Election Act.
The Town of High River Municipal Election Bylaw 4632/2024 requires that candidates provide:
- Signatures of at least 15 electors who reside within the Town
- A criminal record check completed within 3 months of submission
