Big Changes to the New Solid Waste Bylaw Presented at Open Houses This Month

HIGH RIVER AB – Four Information Sessions will take place this month to provide residents with information about the new Solid Waste Management Bylaw approved by Council on February 26, 2024. The new bylaw replaces the former 2008 bylaw and addresses current technology and updated practices.

Information Sessions are scheduled in each quadrant of Town. Residents are encouraged to attend to learn about the bylaw changes, ask questions and hear about good habits and practices related to solid waste collection. Refreshments will be provided at each event.

Open House Dates & Locations:

  • April 22nd – Joe Clark School - 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
  • April 23rd – Highwood High School - 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
  • April 24th – Notre Dame Collegiate - 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Help us by sharing your questions!
  • Your questions and comments will help us learn what information you need to know over the coming year as we promote new practices, and before enforcement begins. Topics can include garbage collection, recycling depot guidelines, landfill drop-offs, street sweeping practices, driveway clearing and more.

Public Works staff will be on hand at each Open House to share why we need a new bylaw, and why certain rules are in place.

For example, did you know that unbagged garbage in bins causes flyaway litter? Because of the high arms on the big trucks, loose garbage can blow away before reaching the truck. By bagging garbage, it falls into the trucks and there is no mess left on residential streets or lawns.

We look forward to seeing you there. For more details, please visit the Town’s website.
