Business Community Municipal Assessments and Property Taxes

The Community Organization Property Tax Exemption Regulation (COPTER) provides a property tax exemption for registered non-profit organizations and qualifying properties.

The Town of High River is currently accepting property tax exemption applications and renewals from registered non-profit organizations in our municipality. Did you know there is a municipal program for tax exemptions for community organizations?

  • All properties in municipalities are subject to local assessment and taxation.
  • The Municipal Government Act provides some tax exemptions to qualifying properties that reflect social values, accessibility and that benefit the public with their use.
  • Tax exemptions can apply to property owned or used by non-profit organizations providing services related to:
    • Government
    • Education
    • Charity
    • Religion
    • Culture, and
    • Historic preservation.

The deadline for new applications for the 2024 tax year is September 30, 2023. To learn more and find out if your group qualifies, check the guidelines on the Town website.

  • Renewal reminders have been mailed to currently approved properties. Please note the response deadline highlighted on the reminder.
