HIGH RIVER - Water-related challenges can occur year-round, such as overland water buildup and sewer backups. Knowing what to look for and how to prevent issues can save you time, money, and stress.

Overland Water: Why It Happens & How to Prevent It

As temperatures fluctuate, melting snow and ice can create overland water buildup, leading to large puddles on streets, sidewalks, and driveways. While this is a natural occurrence, standing water can become a problem if it blocks pathways, freezes into hazardous ice patches, or causes groundwater flooding near homes.

How to Prevent Water Buildup:

  • Clear storm drains near your home of debris like leaves and ice to ensure proper drainage.
  • Direct eavestroughs (gutters) away from your home to prevent water from pooling near the foundation.
  • Shovel snow onto your lawn or garden instead of the road. This helps keep drains clear and provides moisture for your yard in the spring.
  • Inspect your property regularly for signs of erosion or foundation cracks to prevent water from seeping into your home.
