Sports & Fitness Council
High River – On October 18, when voting in the Municipal Election, High River residents will have an opportunity to voice their opinions regarding the expansion of the Town’s Aquatic facility. At the ballot box, an Aquatic Facility Referendum Question will be provided to residents, asking the following question.
- Do you support the Town borrowing up to $15,000,000.00 to expand the existing pool facility?
Residents may select YES or NO.
The results of the referendum are non-binding. They will be used to provide helpful information to incoming Council, by letting them know if there is broad community support to finance and expand the existing aquatic facility.
The expansion of the pool facility has been one of Council’s top priorities since January 2020. In 2018 the Town gathered community ideas and came up with a plan to renovate the existing facility. The cost of additional and renovated space would require borrowing $15 million to be paid over 25 years and affect resident taxes.
Details about the proposed renovations and additions can be viewed on the Town’s website: highriver.ca/referendum. Watch for more information to be delivered to resident households, with more information about this fall’s Municipal Election and the Aquatic Referendum Question.
